Elevate Your Holidays: Homemade Rye Whiskey Recipe
Dec 10th 2024
Hey Distilling Enthusiast,
There's nothing quite like sharing a glass of homemade spirits with loved ones during the holidays. Last Thanksgiving, I savored the joy of serving my own handcrafted rye whiskey alongside a festive feast. The smiles and compliments were priceless!
I'd love for you to experience that same satisfaction this holiday season. Here's my go-to rye whiskey recipe:
Ingredients:
- 7 lbs Rye
- 2 lbs Barley
- 1 lb Malt
- 6 gallons Water
- 1 oz Baker's Yeast
- 1 gram Ammonium Fluoride
Instructions:
- Heat water to 70°F. Add malt and grains.
- Gradually increase temperature to 160°F (5 degrees every 2 minutes), stirring continuously.
- Maintain 160°F for 2-3 hours to convert starches into sugars.
- Strain the mixture and transfer the liquid to a fermentation container.
- Cool to 70-80°F. Add yeast and ammonium fluoride.
- Stir well and seal.
- Ferment for 5-7 days.
- Distill and enjoy!
Don't forget to share your results with us on Facebook!
P.S. funny moment from my Thanksgiving: My aunt requested a small pour for her "back." My uncle quipped, "That's funny, I always drink whiskey for my 'front.'"
Happy distilling and happy holidays!
